Must-Visit Destination Winery
From the vantage point of open, second-floor viewing galleries and balconies, you will begin a winery tour with a clear sense of Tinhorn's commitment to helping you understand the ancient art of winemaking. Signs along your self-guided tour route are changed frequently to coincide with and explain the seasonal activities you view in Tinhorn Creek's production areas. A stroll through the winery's demonstration vineyard is another opportunity to learn... this time about grape growing. There are 15 stations along the tour route covering topics ranging from climate, disease and pests to soil profiles and varietals. The genius of Tinhorn Creek Vineyards is its ability to balance visitor services and activities, education conservation with a serious passion for making wine. Tinhorn Creek owners, Kenn and Sandra Oldfield embrace a multifaceted stewardship approach to protect the critters in the vineyards and the environment in their care. As a result of their efforts, TLC, The Land Conservancy, has recognized Tinhorn Creek Vineyards as a Conservation Partner. The on-going Stewardship Programs at Tinhorn are taken seriously. When it comes to the winemaking, Sandra is just the person to bring genuine zeal to Tinhorn Creek's style. "I have a passion for exploring the potential of our estate wines," Sandra admits. "Allowing the vineyards to fully express themselves in complex wines is why I am here." Hundreds of Gold, Silver and Bronze medals from Northwest, All-Canada and American wine-judging competitions confirm the quality of Sandra's winemaking skill and talent. If you want to experience her award-winning wines, you will find the best selection at the winery itself. A large tasting bar -- complete with friendly and knowledgeable staff -- is the dominant feature of Tinhorn Creek's beautiful wine and gift shop.

Oldfield's Collection Merlot Tasting Notes: Chocolate, sweet vanilla, blackberries, and leather are prominent aromas of this full bodied wine. On the palate cassis, spice, blackberries and black cherries lead the way. The finish is long and the tannins big, but well balanced. Food Pairings: This full bodied wine calls for rich red meats such as steak and big game. It will also pair nicely with a variety of cheeses. Quotes:
"…strapping, no-holds-barred wine made for the long-term. Its
potent nose exhibits rich, seductively sweet blackcurrant, plum,
leather, and toffee aromas. On the palate, it is packed with
ripe, concentrated black cherry and cassis fruit and nuances of
spicy, smoky oak, vanilla and coffee bean, supported by fine,
firm tannins. This calls from beef or venison with rich sauces."
4.5 stars. Michael Botner, Vines
Magazine Jan/Feb 2008 Tasting Notes: Made in an elegant style, this wine begins with apple and light topical aromas. It has a complex array of flavours with nice, crisp acidity and a lingering finish. Food Pairings: A versatile wine for food pairing with pastas, grilled meats, soups and fine cheeses. It is also very nice on the patio alone or with appetizers. Quotes: "2Bench is an alluring mix of sémillon, chardonnay, sauvignon blanc and gewürztraminer that sees no oak." - Anthony Gismondi, Vancouver Sun, Sept. 15, 2007
Tasting Notes: "If this wine were human,
it would be the life of the party..." Food Pairings: This summer serve Pinot Gris with light salads, creamy pastas, fresh shellfish and seafood. Or enjoy it by itself, on the patio, with friends. In the winter months also enjoy it with creamy vegetable or squash soups, roasted chicken and (our favourite) turkey around the holidays. Quotes: "This is light, delicate, pinot gris
that is made for summer sipping and it’s perfectly revealed in
this format." 87 points Anthony Gismondi, gismondionwine.com,
July 2007 Awards: BRONZE - 2007 Indy International Wine Competition, Indiana
Tasting Notes: This Chardonnay is full of citrus and apple aromas with oak and vanilla overtones. The portion that was barrel fermented provides a creamy, smooth texture but does not mask the fruit flavours. This is a crisp, well balanced wine with a long, smooth finish. Food Pairings: Enjoy this Chardonnay with seafood pastas in cream sauce or chicken dishes. For a winter pairing try a butternut squash soup or grilled pork roast. This Chardonnay is also perfect to serve with appetizers or to sip while you prepare the dinner. Quotes: "Bursting with ripe fruit flavours of pear, apple and honeydew melon with fresh baked apple pie and butterscotch aromas from only two months spent in toasty French oak." -D. Greene, BC Wine Trails, Summer 2007 Awards: BRONZE Okanagan Fall Wine Festival, BC, 2007
Tasting Notes: "If this wine were human,
it wouldn't wait for a special occasion to buy fresh
flowers...." Food Pairings: "This wine isn't
human. But you are. So enjoy it with appetizers and spicy
dishes. And always buy yourself fresh flowers. Quotes:
"Always one of the best labels at Tinhorn and the '06
is no exception... Well balanced, light fun style. Perfect for
Indian or Thai cuisine." Anthony Gismondi, gismondionwine.com,
August 2007
Tasting Notes: “You gotta love this Pinot Noir!” That’s what everyone is saying here at the winery. Swirl a glass of this bright, red wine and you are greeted with rich cherry aromas. Cherry is also the dominant flavour with hints of berries and some soft floral notes. This Pinot Noir is silky smooth in the mouth and lingers for a long finish. Food Pairings: Pinot Noir is an extremely versatile food wine. Its delicate flavours go nicely with white meats such as pork, turkey and chicken. It is also “The Red Wine” to pair with fish like salmon and halibut. This wine also goes nicely with appetizers. We’ve even chilled it a little and served it on the patio, paired only with the winery’s spectacular view of the Okanagan Valley. Visitors loved it. Quotes: "This Pinot has a slightly floral bouquet coupled with an intense burst of cherry and a soft lingering of oak. Great with chicken, turkey or pork." diningoutguide.com, Sept. 2007 Awards: BRONZE North West Wine Summit.

Tasting Notes: "If this wine were human,
it would grab you by the hand and insist you dance - even if no
one else was..." Food Pairings: "This wine isn't human. But you are. So enjoy it with meat or pasta. And when you hear a song you love, turn up the volume - and dance." Quotes: BC WINE OF THE WEEK! Vancouver

Tasting Notes: This dark, captivating Cabernet
Franc has aromas of oak with hints of chocolate. Oak, raspberry,
and blackberry flavours combine with Food Pairings: This wine is very food friendly due to the crisp acidity and fruit flavours. Enjoy it with spicy meat dishes or with rich foods that have a cream sauce. Awards: BRONZE - Canadian Wine Awards, 2007 2006

Kerner Icewine Tasting Notes: Rich tropical and tree fruit aromas rise from the golden wine swirling in the glass. A medley of tree and tropical fruit flavours, especially pears and apricots, delight the palate. This sweet wine is soft and smooth, not cloying. Each sip ends in a long lingering finish. Food Pairings: This Icewine makes a fabulous dessert all by itself. When pairing it with food, avoid anything very sweet. They can end up competing rather than complimenting each other. Instead chose something with fresh fruits, cheese or a light pastry. The Kerner Icewine also goes very nicely with a rich pate, such as fois gras, in the middle of a meal. Quotes: "There's always a charming floral element to Tinhorn's Kerner Icewine. The 2006 has an appealing balanced flavour profile that suggests an appealing mix of baked apples and pear fruit." -Michael Botner, Vines Magazine, Jan/Feb 2008 Awards: SILVER Indy International Wine
